Socialist Republicans Condemn National Party As Razor Blade In Sticker Injures Member Of Public

Socialist republicans from the Leinster branch of the Irish Republican Socialist Party (IRSP) have condemned the National Party for its ‘anti-community behaviour’ after one of their stickers allegedly stuck up with a razor blade injured a member of the public attempting to remove it, while others have slammed the incident as ‘absolute low life Nazi behaviour’, noting that ‘what the National Party lack in razor sharp minds they make up for with nastiness’.

The National Party is a small far-right, anti-immigration and anti-Communist party registered in Ireland, with barely any electoral support, only winning 1 local council seat in the 2024 election, and is riddled with internal problems arising from various leadership disputes.

The sticker, found in Dublin 8 on Bishop Street, was stuck up with a razor-blade, a common tactic used by fascists, the far-right and other reactionary forces to prevent the removal of their propaganda from the streets. The photo circulating on social media shows that the member of the public was injured, as blood is visible on the sticker which was removed. It is recommended that those removing such material from the streets use a paint scraper, gloves and exercise caution, rather than merely using bare hands, in order to prevent injury. The IRSP have called upon the National Party to offer an explanation for what they describe as a ‘sickening and utterly reckless act’.

“This is an absolutely sickening and utterly reckless act. That could have been a child or young person removing that sticker and causing themselves serious harm. Kids rip things off lampposts and poles on a regular basis. What would happen then?, “ the IRSP said in a statement.

“Whoever deliberately placed a razor blade behind a sticker must have known exactly how dangerous this could be. To deliberately conceal a blade in a place where an unsuspecting member of the public could easily come into contact with it is beyond irresponsible. It is a disgusting act of anti community behaviour. We completely condemn whoever the sick individual responsible for this was and we call out the National party themselves for an explanation on this, “ the statement continued.

“There is no excuse whatsoever for deliberately putting innocent people at risk of injury. Political differences or disagreements are no justification for this kind of cowardly and dangerous behaviour, “ the statement concluded.

The use of razor blades to prevent the removal of such material is not a new method. This is a common method employed by reactionary forces around the world. For instance, in 2021, it was reported that swastika stickers with razor blades were found near schools in England.
