Dublin Musings: Drury and Pearse
Cheap food and the DCC's war on drinking and more. Is there truth to the statement "Dublin is Dying?"
Years of cronyism, corruption, landlordism and all other “isms” common in Dublin City Council has rendered Dublin a very expensive city to live in for us ordinary people. The far-right hand in hand with their masters in Leinster house has pitted us against each other. There is a need to celebrate what we have in common that those in Leinster House could never grasp. As such this column is my tiny dedication to this fact.
Food Highlight: Bitebox
This restaurant on Pearse Street serves affordable food. While it caters partially to students it is friendly to kids in the area. So many spots near Trinity have become hostile to residents (especially young residents) from Pearse Street, Ringsend and other nearby areas. That’s not Bitebox however. Last time I was there a group of kids from Pearse Street visited and spoke to the server about their recent school trip. It’s the perfect place for someone looking for something affordable but quality.

DCC’s War on Drinking: Drury Street
A huge advertisement was spotted on Drury street this week. It’s extremely ironic considering the city council’s clear hostility to young people drinking in the area. Huge advertisements are allowed but apparently buying a bottle of Smirnoff and drinking on the street is a problem. It is absolutely clear that there was no problem with “anti-social” behaviour. In the end the anti-drinking patrols are all part of a drive to make us buy stupidly unaffordable pints from businesses who have the ear of city council.
Drury st right now - how is this allowed?
