Young Peoples’ Radical Assemly, Wednesday 22nd May, 1-5pm, Rowlagh Community Centre, Neilstown Road. Hosted by Councillor Gino Kenny
The idea of a young peoples’ assembly is to bring young people together from the locality to see the effects of austerity and what its effects is doing to their lives. Young people under the age of twenty five have been badly hit by the economical recession. Youth unemployment and emigration has seen record levels over the past five years. The social damage of cuts to youth services, education, social welfare and its general accumulative effect is having immeasurable effect on young people’s lives. This assembly hopes to address some of the issues that young people have to deal with in Ireland today. The assembly will be addressed by young people from the area on issues that matter to them and the issues that affect the community as a whole.
We are also delighted to welcome as a guest speaker Bernadette Devlin Mc Aliskey. Bernadette was the youngest women female MP to be elected to the British Parliament back in 1968 at the age of twenty one. Bernadette was at the forefront of Civil Rights Movement in Northern Ireland in the late sixties and early seventies. She is currently a Community activist in Tryone.
