Socialist Republicans Condemn Teeling’s Private Security Thugs

Socialist republicans have condemned the use of Blackwater private security to “intimidate and harass” residents at their ongoing housing occupation in the Liberties. Activists from the Revolutionary Housing League took over a vacant property owned by Jack Teeling of Teeling Whiskey’s, a pub left empty for 16 years, and have been working to reopen it as the Anne Devlin Community Center. The High Court, at the behest of capitalists and landlords, handed down an injunction yesterday, asking the activists to vacate the site, which they are refusing to do.

They have stated that the injunction, based on the claim that the building is structurally unsafe to use, is “complete nonsense”. Instead, they are calling on the Liberties community to defend the occupation, and have organised an event this Saturday, which consists of a meet-and-greet with a barbecue.

“Republicans will not be left wanting when it comes to defending working class communities from parasitic vulture funds. We call on the wider Liberties community to join us and push back against these parasites who will continue to price locals out of the area. We encourage Jack Teeling to choose a different course of action, “ their most recent statement reads.

Blackwater Asset Management is the same firm which evicted housing activists in 2022 from Ionad Sean Heuston, as well as countless families from their homes during the times of austerity, and is known for its violent, excessive methods.

Mr Teeling's wealth is estimated to be €45m, while Blackwater boasts of having recovered €4 billion in assets for their “clients”, the landlords, capitalists and multinationals parasitically living off the Irish people.
