Westerners Are In A State Of Shock As They Find Out That Zelensky Absolutely Loves Israel

And the timing could not be more perfect. Fresh off my Independence Day piece on the state of Ukraine in 2026, in which I argued that the country is being used as a tool of Western imperial interests while its own people are kidnapped off the streets and sent to die, Volodymyr Zelensky has done me the considerable favour of solidifying my position in a single tweet:

This is the same Benjamin Netanyahu who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity. The same one overseeing a genocide and ethnic cleansing in Palestine and trying to do the same in Lebanon. That is Zelensky’s man. His partner in security. The leader he looks forward to working with fruitfully.

And across the Western left, people are today having a meltdown:

The cognitive dissonance, apparently, is too much to bear for those who have convinced themselves that Ukraine is some kind of progressive beacon. The ones that think ‘Slava Ukraini’ is a cry of the oppressed rather than a slogan of imperial pawns and ethnonationalists. Now, they’re suddenly confronted with a contradiction they cannot explain away. It is, I will be honest with you, quite funny to watch if not a little sad, because the information that would have prevented this meltdown has always been available to anyone willing to look for it.

Zelensky And Israel: A Love Story

Let us be clear about something. Zelensky is no way and has never been ambivalent about Israel. He is not a reluctant ally nor a pragmatist doing what he must. He is a proud, vocal, enthusiastic Zionist, and he has been saying so openly for years to anyone who cared to listen.

In 2022, he told reporters that he wanted Ukraine to become a ‘big Israel’ with its own face after the war.

He elaborated:

‘We will become a big Israel with its own face. We will not be surprised if we have representatives of the Armed Forces or the National Guard in cinemas, supermarkets, and people with weapons.’

This is not a man making a simple diplomatic calculation but one who admires the Israeli model. He enjoys its militarism, its security state, its willingness to use overwhelming force against any perceived threat and he wants to replicate it on European soil. In February 2022, five days before Russia’s invasion, he addressed the Israeli Knesset and praised Golda Meir’s words:

‘We intend to remain alive. Our neighbours want to see us dead. This is not a question that leaves much room for compromise.’

He framed Ukraine’s struggle in terms of total destruction of people and culture, compared it to the Holocaust, and then asked for weapons. He has not condemned the genocide in Gaza. He has not criticised Netanyahu and he has not called for a ceasefire. Not once.

The Epstein files, released by the US Department of Justice in February 2026, added a bit of colour to the picture, though I want to be a little careful here about treating unsubstantiated claims as established fact. The files include correspondence from May 2019 in which Larry Summers asked Epstein about Ukraine, and Epstein replied that Zelensky was ‘looking for help’ and that Putin was ‘dismissive, saying he is run by Israelis.’ Zelensky was mentioned ten times across the files, and Epstein visited him multiple times in Ukraine, including a stay in Kyiv a month before Zelensky was elected in 2019. What to make of that is a matter of interpretation, and I am not going to tell you what to think about it but…you know?

What is not a matter of interpretation is Zelensky’s public record, which speaks entirely for itself.

The Material Relationship

What makes all of this more than rhetorical is the material dimension of the Ukraine-Israel relationship, because this is not simply a matter of tweets and speeches. These two states are actively cooperating militarily while one of them conducts a genocide.

According to multiple reports, Zelensky sent over 200 Ukrainian drone specialists to the Middle East to help train the Israeli Genocide Force in ‘defending’ itself against Iran and Lebanon. In 2025, he revealed that a Patriot missile system provided by Israel was already operational in Ukraine, with two more systems to follow. In July 2026, Israel and the United States signed a framework drone cooperation agreement that formalises the exchange of Ukrainian drone expertise, and Ukrainian foreign minister Andrii Sybiha was invited to Israel to discuss deepening cooperation. This is happening right now, in real time, while the Israeli Genocide Forces are still killing children in Gaza with the methods and technologies that Ukrainian specialists have helped refine. Zelensky has not paused the cooperation. He has expanded it. And this January, he appeared on Israeli national television to offer his wholehearted support to Netanyahu and Israel’s military campaigns.

The shock that some people are feeling about yesterday’s tweet is not because something new has happened but because they have finally been forced to confront something that has been true all along and which the Western media, the liberal NGOs, the celebrities, and the political establishment have collectively chosen not to tell them. Zelensky is a Zionist. Ukraine, under his leadership, is a client state of the same empire that arms and protects Israel. They are on the same side. They have always been on the same side. The same empire that provides weapons to Israel provides them to Ukraine. The same empire that vetoes UN resolutions condemning Israeli genocide runs NATO. These are not separate projects. They are the same project, and Zelensky has always known it, which is why a tweet like this does not get posted by accident. It was deliberate. He knew exactly what he was doing and he did not care, because he has never had any reason to care.

The Western left that cheered for ‘Slava Ukraini’ was, without knowing it, cheering for a Zionist client state of the American empire. That is the uncomfortable truth that this tweet has forced into the open. And the meltdown it has caused, while darkly amusing, is ultimately a good thing, because it means that some people are finally being honest with themselves about what they have been supporting. Better late than never.
