Saoradh Slams Latest PSNI Intimidation Attempt Of Socialist Republicans

As Saoradh party activists were preparing to undertake their commemoration of the 1981 Hunger Strikers in Armagh, they were met with a PSNI response described as being “aggressive” and “disproportionate”.

The party activists at the Vol. Raymond McCreesh Monument were swarmed by at least 6 PSNI vehicles on the 4th of October 2026, and subjected to a stop-and-search in the lashing rain by a large contingent of police officers. Their cars were also searched. Saoradh also says that the party activists were being surveilled by the PSNI’s military wing.

Just earlier that day, the Newry branch of Saoradh had been discussing the continued attempts to intimidate and harass socialist republicans by the Stormont regime, and ways to resist it.

“The irony is impossible to ignore. Republicans had met to discuss the very mechanisms of repression being deployed against them, only to find themselves subjected to those same powers later that day a short distance away, “ Saoradh said in a statement.

“There will be no surprise within the Republican community at this latest display of Crown Force intimidation. The timing, location and nature of this operation speak for themselves. Targeting Republicans at the Raymond McCreesh Monument, on the eve of a commemoration dedicated to remembering those who gave their lives in the struggle, is particularly telling, “ the statement concluded.

The news comes as the 18-year old Derry man who was charged with supporting a proscribed “terrorist” organisation - as a result of his wearing a Patsy O’Hara commemorative t-shirt - by the Stormont regime has now been jailed for breaching his curfew conditions as he was en route to Garvaghy Road.
