"Industrial Scale Bullying": Allianz Issues Legal Threat To Activists

Allianz is threatening legal proceedings against a number of people who signed a letter to schools who use the company for insurance, which pointed out that the company is complicit in profiting from Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

Aontacht understands that 15 activists received the same correspondence from Allianz’s legal department, undersigned by John Dolan, the company’s secretary and legal lead.

“You have made grave allegations against our company, circulated them to our customers and urged those customers to terminate their contracts. The responsibility for substantiating those allegations rests with you, “ a copy of a letter seen by Aontacht Media states.

“We will not accept the continued presentation of disputed allegations as established findings of wrongdoing, nor the targeting of our customers on the strength of claims that have not been adequately substantiated, “ it continues.

“Allianz p.l.c. expressly reserves all rights and remedies available to it under applicable law, including in respect of defamatory statements and any resulting reputational or commercial harm. We will consider further action as appropriate following your response, “ it concludes..

The letter demands that activists “provide documentary evidence” for their assertions, “identify the legal and factual basis” for them, “withdraw or correct materially inaccurate statements” and “confirm the extent of circulation” of the letter which was sent to schools by pro-Palestine activists.

“The ‘Drop Allianz’ campaign is a humanitarian campaign, predicated upon information published by credible organisations including the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), “ the activists said in response.

“The “industrial scale bullying” by Allianz in Ireland will be addressed through collective action. A comprehensive plan is being developed and will be shared with campaign groups in the coming week, “ they added.

In July 2025, Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories Francesca Albanese’s report identified Allianz as one of the companies profiting from genocide, leading to calls for its boycott by pro-Palestine activists.
