Galway Housing Sought by Filmmaker From Gaza
Palestinian journalist, filmmaker and MA student Abdulruhman Ismail is seeking accommodation in Galway, with his current lease expiring on Monday 24 August. He is one of many survivors of the Gaza genocide that have been abandoned by the State.
Abdulruhman A. Ismail is a 24-year-old evacuee from Gaza who is currently enrolled in a Master of Arts in Creative Practice at Atlantic Technological University’s Galway campus.
In an Instagram post published on Sunday 9 August, he asked for help in finding “a room, a family willing to host… or any safe accommodation” in Galway. He has to leave his current housing on Monday 24 August.

The instability he faces is a consequence of deliberate State policy, which treats Palestinians who had no choice but to flee Zionist annihilation the same as any other immigrant.
On Thursday 6 August, the Department of Justice confirmed to RTÉ that visa applicants living in Gaza will not be prioritised over other international applicants.
In June 2025, Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan refrained from saying whether the State would advocate on the European Union level for the Temporary Protection Directive to be extended to Palestinians.
The Temporary Protection Directive is a piece of European legislation that gives persons from a non-EU country the right to live, work, study and avail of certain benefits in the Union for a defined period. The Directive is currently only in place for Ukrainians fleeing Russian invasion.
