The Irish FFG government has accepted the European Union’s decision to forbid Ukrainians of fighting age, subjects of enforced conscription, from seeking asylum in Europe, a parliamentary question posed to Minister of Justice Jim O’Callaghan has revealed.
Paul Murphy TD, of People Before Profit, asked on Wednesday 30th of September 2026 whether the Minister was aware that Irish migration officers are asking Ukrainian men and women at the Irish borders whether they have completed their military service.
“Are you aware of the ongoing practice of checking the military documents of men and women trying to obtain protection in Ireland, and refusing those who cannot provide them, what is the justification of the practice, and will you instruct your Department to end it?, “ he asked.
“Council Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/1912 also introduced a new eligibility requirement for Temporary Protection. Article 2 of the Decision provides that, without prejudice to Union law and fundamental rights, Temporary Protection shall only be granted to persons who satisfy their military obligations in Ukraine, upon presenting proof where applicable, “ O’Callaghan responded.
“The requirement applies to new applicants irrespective of gender, where military obligations under Ukrainian law are applicable to the individual concerned. It should not be understood as a general requirement that every applicant produce a particular military document. The relevant consideration is whether the applicant satisfies any military obligations applicable to them under Ukrainian law and, where applicable, can provide sufficient evidence of this, “ he explained.
“The measure was adopted at EU level as part of the Decision extending Temporary Protection. The Council stated that, while continuing to provide protection to people displaced from Ukraine, account should also be taken of Ukraine’s defence needs and its ability to defend itself against Russia’s war of aggression, “ he added.
O’Callaghan then stated that he will not be issuing an order to his department to stop implementing the EU directive.
Interestingly, NATO member state Hungary refused to adopt the decision and the Prime Minister Péter Magyar openly criticised it, while “neutral” Ireland adopted it without any resistance.
The Ukrainian people are fighting back against Zelensky. Every single day, more videos emerge of civilians intervening in abductions, pulling men free, surrounding conscription vehicles, refusing to let their neighbours be taken to die in the proxy war. Meanwhile, the FFG government is dancing to the tune of the warmongering European Commission, and at its helm, the Butcheress of Berlaymount, Ursula von der Leyen. How many more Ukrainians will be sent to die for this imperialist war?
