CATU Wexford Calls For Action As IPAS Center Evicts Families

CATU Wexford has issued an urgent call for the working class to mobilize against 30 eviction notices issued by the for-profit Arklow IPAS center.

IPAS is a State body, who hire private contractors and pay them with tax payer money for management services, while paying private landlords considerable sums to use their properties for temporary accommodation for refugees.

In this case, the private landlords want to increase rents, which IPAS does not want to pay. 

“This morning 30 people are being evicted from their home in Arklow and scattered across the country. Families, friends, and a whole support network are being ripped apart because the landlord wants more money and IPAS won't pay it, “ said CATU Wexford in a statement. 

“Residents have been trying to build lives here, who have jobs, have children in local schools, are being sent to massive centres that are often unsafe, while a few are moved to other centres that are apartments, “ it continued. 

CATU Wexford is demanding the withdrawal of the eviction notices, so that the families may continue living in the area, where they are trying to build lives and integrate in the community. 

Just last month, Aontacht Media reported on a case involving a Palestinian refugee who was being forced to relocate by IPAS, who has thankfully since then found alternative accommodation in his hometown of Cork.
