CATU Tallaght Delivers Formal Notice To South Dublin County Council Over Outstanding Repairs

CATU Tallaght has today hand delivered a formal demand letter to South Dublin County Council calling for immediate engagement with the union over outstanding repairs affecting CATU members.

The union has given South Dublin County Council two weeks to engage directly with CATU Tallaght and begin engagement with the repairs campaign being organised by tenants in Mac Uíllíam.

The letter was delivered directly to the Council as CATU members made clear that tenants will no longer accept being left waiting indefinitely for basic repairs to their homes.

For CATU Tallaght, these are not simply administrative issues. They are issues affecting the homes, living conditions and dignity of tenants.

A CATU Tallaght spokesperson and Mac Uíllíam Resident Dan Comerford said:

“We have waited long enough, indefinite delays are no longer acceptable. These repairs aren’t paperwork problems; they affect our homes, our health and our dignity. We are calling on South Dublin County Council to meet us within two weeks. If they take their responsibilities seriously, they will engage with CATU Tallaght and the Mac Uilliam campaign now”.

The union is also calling on local councillors and elected representatives to intervene and use their positions to ensure that South Dublin County Council engages with CATU Tallaght.

CATU Tallaght has made clear that the two week deadline represents the beginning of a campaign, not the end of one.

If the Council fails to engage meaningfully with the union, CATU Tallaght will consider further escalation, campaigning and mobilisation alongside its members.

The union is calling on tenants and members of the local community to support the campaign and stand with tenants demanding properly maintained homes.

CATU TALLAGHT’S DEMANDS

• Immediate engagement between South Dublin County Council and CATU Tallaght.

• Meaningful engagement with the tenants affected by outstanding repairs.

• Action to address outstanding repairs.

• Clear timelines for the completion of necessary works.

• Proper maintenance of tenants’ homes.

The news comes as CATU Cavan members scored a victory against an abusive landlord and successfully prevented an eviction this week.
