“Anti-Woke” Men: Please Go Listen To CumTown And Leave Us Alone

Yesterday, I read Gearóid Ó Loingsigh’s article on the “quasi-religious” and “woke MAGA” here in Aontacht. I was overwhelmed with a radical empathy— for here was a man so afraid to say what he thinks, so trapped in his own need to apply to a political analysis to everything, that he cannot say what he means. And what he means is that he finds a few different types of people annoying, and most of those people are members of identity groups that he knows it is not super kosher to bash publicly. I understand this— I too find many of people I ostensibly agree with rather annoying. For example, you. 

Here are my pleas to you:

1. Listen to CumTown. Develop a positive parasocial relationship with Nick Mullen to replace your negative parasocial relationship with the random middle aged women on Instagram you find annoying. Lots of real gems in here— a good place to start is “Reviewing Adam on i24 News”. It’s on YouTube. You’re like the Japanese soldiers still fighting World War II in the Philippines, but you’re fighting the 2014 Obama-era culture wars that Robin DiAngelo lost long ago. Catch up to the rest of us.
2. Stop listening or caring about the opinions of people you consider unserious. Or really, stop caring about the opinions of people online. Try to give everyone you meet in real life the benefit of doubt and be generous in your interpretation of them. 
3. Some people online or at protests act as moral police and are annoying to essentially every member of society bar the couple hundred other people like them. You can ignore these people when making decisions, but treat them with empathy as they are well intentioned and often socially isolated.
4. Yes, communists in India do (essentially) ask Hindu and upper caste comrades to check their privilege. And have for decades. Check out Arundhati Roy if you want to learn a bit more about the Indian left (and get to read one of the best novels in the English language at the same time).
5. Think less about trans people, women, and racial minorities. Refer to step one again and listen to more CumTown. Before doing any politicking listen to an episode to get all that residual misogyny and bigotry out on your own time.
