Over the weekend, three activists from the Irish Republican Socialist Party (IRSP) were violently arrested at the border by the PSNI in what is [once again](https://aontachtmedia.ie/socialist-republican-youth-face-charges-after-strabane-easter-parade/) the targeted harassment of socialist republicans.

As comrades were crossing into the occupied 6 counties, they were set upon by armed officers. During their arrest, the PSNI rammed into the activists’ vehicles, causing damage, smashed the windows and forcibly dragged them out. They were then detained overnight, without any justification, before being released.

“This was not routine policing. It was an aggressive, disproportionate and deeply intimidating operation, carried out by personnel whose identities and actions are shielded behind masks and an alarming lack of public accountability, “ the IRSP said in a [statement](https://www.instagram.com/p/DfIT-uykQch/?img%5Findex=1&ref=aontachtmedia.ie) on social media.

“One is left to question what precisely their alleged crime was. Being republican? Purchasing fuel? Crossing the British-imposed border? Or simply being members of an organisation that refuses to be intimidated into political silence?”, they added, highlighting that this forms a part of a broader pattern of attempted intimidation of socialist republican activists.

The IRSP also highlighted that “we are repeatedly told that the PSNI is underfunded and understaffed”, yet “when it comes to monitoring, surveilling and intimidating republican activists, resources appear to be readily available”.

In addition, the IRSP critiqued the mainstream media apparatus, for accepting the oft-repeated narrative handed to them by the PSNI which associates socialist republicanisms with an ambiguous “criminality”, in an effort to normalise this sort of intimidation.

“This is a familiar tactic: release a carefully constructed narrative, attach the broad and deliberately ambiguous label of criminality, and allow that narrative to shape public perception before the full circumstances have even been scrutinised, “ they said.

Members of the community came out to support the arrested socialist republicans activists on the night of the arrest, the IRSP says.
