# Belfast Anti-Amazon Activist Assaulted By Private Security

On Thursday 15 October, two activists affiliated with [BDS Belfast](https://www.facebook.com/BDSBelfast) infiltrated the data and artificial intelligence convention [Big Data Belfast 2026](https://bigdatabelfast.com/?ref=aontachtmedia.ie) and [interrupted](https://www.instagram.com/reels/DekpdOyhR5i/?ref=aontachtmedia.ie) the keynote speaker for Amazon.

Amazon has been designated a [pressure target](https://bdsmovement.net/Guide-to-BDS-Boycott?ref=aontachtmedia.ie) of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement [since late 2023](https://web.archive.org/web/20231108222316/https://bdsmovement.net/Act-Now-Against-These-Companies-Profiting-From-Genocide) for providing the Israeli state with vital digital infrastructure, expanding its wartime capacity and mass-surveillance capabilities. 

Security at the convention assaulted one of the activists by smashing his glasses, choking him and dangerously wrenching his neck. BDS Belfast stated that they “will be pursuing legal action over this appalling use of violence against peaceful protestors,” and that they will “continue with direct action, even at the risk of personal injury”.

This display of excessive force is consistent with the behaviour of private security in the Twenty Six Counties, where officers have [brutalised Yves Sakila](https://aontachtmedia.ie/israeli-links-of-arnotts-death-security-firm-revealed/), [assisted with rural evictions](https://aontachtmedia.ie/gardai-and-private-securitys-bogland-eviction-attempt-met-with-resistance/) and [intimidated urban residents](https://aontachtmedia.ie/socialist-republicans-condemn-teelings-private-security-thugs/).

Reflecting their status as an [official partner](https://bdsmovement.net/join-a-bds-campaign?location%5B%5D=25&ref=aontachtmedia.ie) of the BDS National Committee, BDS Belfast has also recently [disrupted a career fair](https://aontachtmedia.ie/queens-students-disrupt-career-fair-with-raf-and-us-war-companies/) at Queen’s University Belfast, where divestment target Caterpillar was made to close their stall and retreat.
